Penn York Highlanders: Ladies from Hell Pipes and Drums
Bagpipe Band
https://pennyorkhighlanders.com
20
The Penn York Highlanders, Ladies from Hell Pipes and Drums hail from Athens, Pennsylvania within the Endless Mountains along the New York border. The band was formed in 1956 making them one of the oldest active pipe bands in North America. This year will mark their 69th marching season. The moniker, “Ladies from Hell” is military in origin and was given to the Scottish Highland regiments of World War 1 by the Germans, who discovered the ferocity of soldiers clad in kilts. The band marches today displaying the colorful Royal Stewart tartan with traditional military garb. The Highlanders have great pride in participating in the annual Scranton St. Patrick’s Day Parade and have been doing so since its inception. They plan to be here year after year so long as they draw breath. Leading the group is Drum Major David Yale along with his Drum Sergeant, Steve Adams. The pipers are helmed by Pipe Sergeant, Eric Bomboy and their Pipe Major, Chris Waite. The band would like to call attention to the Ancient Lamont tartan band worn by all its members on their right arms. The tartan band is in honor of George Whyte who passed last December at the young age of 90. George lead the band for over four decades as the Pipe Major and legend has it was crucial in the formation of the Scranton St Patrick’s parade as we know it today!

We hold classes in Pittston. We are always accepting new students.
While Emerald Isle Step Dancers specialize in performances and shows, some dancers have that competitive spirit.  As a member of the CRDM Irish Dance Organization, many dancers compete and have won several awards at RTN sponsored events.

Mott Community College – Mott Campus Clowns
Clown Troupe – 8 members – four clowns per side of parade
mcc.edu
8
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Mott Campus Clowns are honors students from Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan. Troupe members are enrolled in a service-learning course where they are trained to perform anti-bullying comedy magic shows for school-aged children. The Mott Campus Clowns also appear in holiday parades. They are directed by Dr. Brian Ivory, a 1987 graduate of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College.

LINE OF MARCH REQUEST: The Mott Campus Clowns will be doing “curbside clowning” – meaning half of the troupe (i.e., six members) entertains on one side of the parade, while the other half (i.e., six members) perform on the other side. The clowns also perform in pairs, moving at their own pace before meeting up with the rest of the troupe at the end of the parade. We interact with audiences by telling jokes, giving away clown noses, and posing for photographs along the parade route. For St. Patrick’s Day parades, we also distribute green beads, shamrock stickers and shamrock buttons. Due to curbside clowning at our own pace, we typically request a place in the first 1/4 of the Line of March.

FOR THE TELEVISION BROADCAST: Passing by is a member of the Mott Campus Clown from Flint, Michigan. The clowns are enrolled in a service-learning course at Mott Community College. The clown troupe has come to Pennsylvania as part of a week-long Alternative Spring Break service trip. This coming week they will be performing anti-bully comedy magic shows at elementary schools and Boys & Girls Clubs in the Philadelphia area.

Dempsey’s float displays a washing machine with thousands of bubbles floating out of it. A number of Dempsey employees are part of the unit and are dressed in the colors of the Irish flag. Leading the way for Dempsey is their mascot, “The Y-Guy” bringing along his large shamrock ballon (weather permitting). He’s posing the questions, “Why kiss the Y-Guy? Because he’s Irish!” Following our float, a truck from Dempsey’s founding fleet, the IH Metro. We would like to be a Dubliner Sponsor. Thank you.

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter
Animal Group
https://www.griffinpondanimalshelter.com/
8 pepole, adoptable dogs and rescue vehicle. Please do not place us behind any marching bands. The dogs get really scared of the loud music.
Our Mission is to investigate, help prosecute and prevent cruelty to animals while also promoting adoption awareness and humane education plus responsible pet ownership. We promote this all while we care for the animals surrendered to our shelter to the best of our ability every day until we find them new loving homes.

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter was established as the Humane Society of Lackawanna County in 1938 to provide shelter for homeless, unwanted and abused animals. The shelter cares for over 270 animals on a daily basis, which is a considerable cost when you consider how much staff, food, medicine and supplies the shelter requires to operate. We also provide for animals that are sick, elderly and injured that are in our custody due to various reasons such as owner surrender and cruelty case investigations.

Our shelter is not affiliated with any other organizations and we are completely funded by private donations. Because we do not receive any federal, state or county funding, we rely on fundraising events and the generosity of caring people. With your support, these animals are given a second chance.

FDNY Emerald Society Pipes and Drums
Bagpipe Band
https://www.fdnypipesanddrums.net/
25
The New York City Fire Department Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, a nonprofit organization, is composed entirely of either retired, or active New York City Firefighters. Prior to 9/11/01, our main source of income was derived from performing at parades, special concerts, volunteer apparatus dedications, etc. However, since 9/11, because of our dedication in providing dignity to the member and their families at over 500 funerals and memorial dedications, the Band has grown increasingly popular among the Department, and with that popularity, it has almost doubled in size.

In the spirit of all our departed Brothers, both in the band and in the department, we will continue to dedicate ourselves and our music to them by proudly playing and marching to American, Irish and Scottish tunes and representing our Society and the FDNY.

We are proud of our Irish heritage, proud to be Americans, and proud to be members of the New York City Fire Department. As present members of the band we will carry on the tradition into the future, praying and hoping that our future Emeralds will carry on what was started by the Charter Members of 1962.
