10 to 12 people including some dogs from the shelter.
Griffin Pond Animal Shelter who is a nonprofit was established as the Humane Society of Lackawanna County in 1938 to provide shelter for homeless, unwanted and abused animals. The shelter cares for over 200 animals on a daily basis, which is a considerable cost when you consider how much staff, food, medicine and supplies the shelter requires to operate. We also provide for animals that are sick, elderly and injured that are in our custody due to various reasons such as owner surrender and cruelty case investigations.

Our shelter is not affiliated with any other organizations and we are completely funded by private donations. Because we do not receive any federal, state or county funding, we rely on fundraising events and the generosity of caring people. With your support, these animals are given a second chance.

Our Float will be Irish Christianity – Celtic Cross -The Celtic cross is a symbol that combines a traditional Christian cross with a ring around the intersection, representing eternity and the connection between heaven and earth. It emerged in Ireland and Britain during the Early Middle Ages and became widespread through high crosses erected by Irish missionaries. The design reflects a blend of Christianity and Celtic art, symbolizing faith, spirituality, and the intertwining of different cultural traditions. Additionally, the Celtic cross is often associated with various rituals and holds significant meaning in Celtic mythology and Fr Peyton- Rosary priest -Patrick’s Promise
In 1927, at age 18, Patrick decided that he wanted to sell real estate in the United States. He already had family members in America: three sisters, three uncles and other relatives settled in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Acquiring their father’s consent was a difficult part of his journey. His father agreed that he and his brother, Tom, could make the trip to America and live with their sister with one condition:

Go down on your knees and make me a promise here before the picture of the Sacred Heart. From now on there will be nobody but yourself to advise you and to decide for you. But your first responsibility will always be to save your soul, and so I want you to promise to be faithful to Our Lord in America. “Family that prays together stays together” got job at the Cathedral of Scranton as janitor went on to Notre Dame for studies

Dempsey, who delivers clean uniforms and linens to thousands of businesses in NEPA, and is the 1st to achieve the Clean Green Certification, has created an entry with the theme, “Green Laundry Operation”. Not only does Dempsey’s rental service reuse products but they are also environmentally friendly with their laundering process. Dempsey’s float displays a washing machine with thousands of bubbles floating out of it. A number of Dempsey employees are part of the unit and are dressed in the colors of the Irish flag. Leading the way for Dempsey is their mascot, “The Y-Guy” bringing along his large shamrock ballon (weather permitting). He’s posing the questions, “Why kiss the Y-Guy? Because he’s Irish!” Following our float, a truck from Dempsey’s founding fleet, the IH Metro. We would like to be a Shamrock Sponsor. Thank you.

La Festa Italiana 50th Anniversary Float!

Born in 1976 as a gift to our community during America’s Bicentennial, La Festa Italiana has grown into Northeastern Pennsylvania’s largest and most beloved cultural festival.

For five decades, more than 100,000 people each year have gathered to celebrate Italian heritage, incredible food, live entertainment, faith, family, and community — all made possible by generations of about 20 dedicated volunteers and board members under the direction of President Chris DiMattio.

This year is especially meaningful, as La Festa celebrates 50 years alongside our nation’s 250th anniversary — marking a powerful legacy of culture, connection, and tradition right here in Scranton.

Let’s hear it for 50 years of La Festa Italiana — Buona Festa, Scranton!
